About Us

To contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.

Note from the Commissioner

As a girl growing up in England I joined the Brownies but I was always frustrated at not being able to be part of the Scouts group my brothers attended as the outdoor adventures and camps seemed like lots of fun. When I was 17 I was finally allowed to join the Venture Scout group where I enjoyed participating and planning many events and activities, and where I was able to really take ownership of organising events, take part in program planning, promoting and motivating other youth and generally being involved. I was secretary for the Area Meetings and so got used to the Scout Movement, the missions and values and what it takes to be in a local group that is part of a wider organisation.

In Squamish I first joined the 4th Squamish Scout Group in 2009 as Secretary as the position was vacant and they told me it was only an “hour a month”. I participated in a Family Camp where I earned my Wood Badge I for Cubs so that I could “occasionally help out”. Cub meetings were lots of fun with engaged youth and dedicated, skillful, knowledgeable leaders, I quickly realised I would like more involvement, to spend time with these inspiring leaders and contribute to not just my own child’s growth and development but to see other children flourish in the group, learn new things and do activities they might not otherwise have the chance to do. It has been a very fulfilling way of contributing to the community and has enabled me a sense of belonging which I otherwise might not have had.  I was a Cub Leader for three years, a Scout Leader for three years and am now a Venture Adviser as well now taking on the role of the Group Commissioner.

As Group Commissioner I look forward to making a positive contribution to the organisation and growth of the group, encouraging new members to join and motivating new leaders. I am continually proud and excited to be part of an organisation that contributes so much to the development of young people, and I am I look forward to many more adventures.

As part of our succession planning, we are continually looking for new leaders to help keep the program running, please contact me if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity. The reward is huge:

  • The opportunity to help in a program that develops well rounded youth who are better prepared for success, and ready to make a meaningful contribution to creating a better world
  • Training opportunities to develop the skills needed to help run the section programs
  • Amazing camping experiences and adventures
  • New friends, networking opportunities, satisfaction in community involvement
  • The opportunity to learn from other leaders who have a wealth of experience and are a family of kind and dedicated volunteers willing to help each other with anything

I look forward to a positive and fulfilling year in scouts, and am excited to hear of the adventures the youth get to participate in.

Yours in Scouting,

Emma Jarrett

4th Squamish Scouts Group Commissioner
