Beavers

Beavers (boys and girls ages 5-7)

Sharing the Adventure

Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver program. Through an adventurous program of outdoor activities, creative play, music, and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends (and meet new ones), learn how to get along within a group, and develop the confidence to be themselves. Beavers share many outdoor adventures with their friends in the colony.

Nature walks, short hikes, tree plantings and family sleepovers give Beavers a taste of outdoor fun. Through these activities, Beavers develop an appreciation and a sense of caring for the environment. Beavers are a vital part of the community, country and world in which they live.  Visits to parks, power plants, fire and police stations thrill young Beavers and illustrate the many important facets of their community.

Announcements

Thanks to everyone who came out to help us clean up Porteau Cove on Oct 2nd.  We also invested nine new Beavers into our Colony.  Welcome to all of our new Beavers and their families!  Presently our Colony has fifteen members, but we would like to have more.  However, we need more adult leaders before we can invite more youth to Beavers, so if you have any interest in being a leader, please contact Sally at sally@cheal.ca. Not only will you have fun, but you will also make it possible for more youth to join.

Our first camp is coming up quickly this month.  We will be heading to Evans Lake for our Fall Camp, on October 22nd.  The fee is $35 per person, and all Beavers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Please look for an email with details and a camp list coming soon.  Evans Lake is a wonderful place for young Beavers to have their first camp and they will really enjoy it.

We will have our next meeting on Tuesday, Oct 11th at Mamquam school...see you all there! - Bubbles

What have the Beavers been doing............

Beavers are gearing up for a new and exciting new year!  We said goodbye to some of our Colony as they swam up to Cubs, and we will also be welcoming some new faces to our group.  Stop by and see what the Beavers are up to!

Camp Byng on the Sunshine Coast was lovely!  We had some beautiful weather, and we had a great time with the youth from Whistler and Squamish joined by their parents, siblings (both older and younger), and a grandparent as well.  It truly was a family event and everyone enjoyed themselves!  Some of the highlights were spending time on the beach checking out crabs, sea stars and limpets, and building a very nice shelter.  We also joined the Cubs, along with some Scouts and Venturers, for a rousing wet sponge battle during a hot afternoon! We finished the year with a Beach Day at Nexen Beach, where, despite the rather chilly weather, we were able to make some S'Mores and enjoy playing on the beach.  At Family Camp, we ate some yummy food, and bid goodbye to two of our youth as they moved on to Cub Scouts.  We ended the evening with a rousing campfire full of song!

This year, we said good-bye to Gnome (Shawn) and Rusty(Nathan).  You will both be missed by the Colony.  If there are any parents interested in joining John and I, please don't hesitate to contact me.  It is a lot of fun, you don't need a large time commitment, and you will reap the best benefit of all, spending time with your child!  It has truly been a pleasure spending time with the youth and families of the 4th Squamish Beaver Colony, and I look forward to more fun and adventure next year.  Have a great summer everyone!
